You’re A Genius
You’re a Genius
Get over it.
I had a thought that changed how I see the world. People are more equal than we think. Many of us have the potential to be geniuses.
John Taylor Gatto, a well-known teacher, said human genius is as common as dirt.
He believed most of his students had hidden talents that just needed the right encouragement. Many thinkers throughout history have shared this idea.
I like to say, if at first you don’t succeed, skydiving definitely isn’t for you. (Oops) I mean try, try again.
Adam Smith, the father of capitalism, said the difference in natural talents between people is smaller than we realize. Even Thomas Hobbes, who supported monarchy, noted that nature made people equal in body and mind.
We see examples of common genius in everyday achievements that don’t rely on formal education. However, our society often believes in equal rights but not in the idea that everyone has high-level abilities.
In ancient Athens, public duties were done by randomly chosen citizens, showing their belief that everyone was capable.
This idea, called the congregational principle, means everyone has a role and a voice to reach their full potential.
Harkness method
Elite groups often use flat organization structures where everyone has equal input, like the Harkness method in top schools. This method involves students and teachers sitting around a table to discuss ideas equally.
Using everyone’s common genius would greatly improve our lives. The Harkness method, with its equal input, is common in prestigious schools but not in public institutions today.
It’s a huge waste not to use everyone’s potential. Imagine how much better our lives would be if we let everyone access this untapped resource.
Recognize
Recognizing everyone’s equal potential can lead to a flourishing world. By giving equal opportunities for responsibility and input, we can maximize everyone’s potential, much like ancient Athens. It’s time to challenge the idea that only a few have exceptional abilities.
Instead, we should create an environment where hidden talents can grow, unlocking a wealth of potential and creating a fairer, more prosperous society for all.
